Ownership & terms
What "buy" means here
These are the terms the Gaddr Games store is built on, written in plain words. They cover our own games and every other game sold on the store.
Draft. The store has not opened. These terms set out how it will work and will be checked by a lawyer before anything goes on sale; the binding version will be published here when it does.
1. What you get when you buy
In most countries the law treats software as licensed rather than sold. So, to be exact: when you buy a game here you get a perpetual, irrevocable licence to that game, with a DRM-free copy you keep. We call that ownership because, in every way that matters to you, it is.
- Perpetual. It doesn't expire and there's no subscription.
- Irrevocable. Once the refund window has closed, nobody can withdraw it: not us, and not the developer. That holds if the game is delisted, if the developer leaves the store, and if you close your account. The only exceptions are a refund you asked for and a purchase that was fraudulent (for example, made with a stolen card).
- DRM-free. The game runs without the launcher, without an account and without an internet connection. Nothing checks in to let you play.
2. Your files
Every purchase can be downloaded as a plain archive or installer, as well as through the launcher. You may back it up, archive it and reinstall it on your own computers as often as you like, forever. Your account decides only what you can download from us; it never decides what you can run.
3. Refunds
You can ask for a refund for any reason within two hours of buying. You get the full price back, including any tax you paid, to the payment method you used.
- Ask from your library in the launcher or on your account page. You don't need to give a reason.
- A refund ends the licence: the game leaves your library and its downloads stop. Because the copy is DRM-free, we ask you to delete any copies you already downloaded.
- After two hours the sale is final, and from then on the licence is irrevocable (section 1).
- We may refuse refunds to an account that uses them to play games through, buying and refunding over and over.
4. Inheritance
Your library is part of what you leave behind. When an owner dies, their games can be passed to an heir.
- The executor of the estate, or the person entitled to inherit, asks us to transfer the library and gives us proof of death and of their right to inherit it.
- Every game moves to the heir's account as a complete purchase, with the same rights the owner had. The heir needs a Gaddr Games account, which is free.
- The original account gives up its download rights to the transferred games. A copy is transferred, never duplicated.
- A library can be passed on whole or divided between several heirs, game by game.
There's no charge for an inheritance transfer, from us or from the developers.
5. No resale
Games bought here can't be sold on, traded, or transferred to another person while the owner is alive. A digital copy never wears out, so a second-hand market would compete with the developer's own sales and pay them nothing for it. Resold copies would also unsettle games with online economies, trading and achievements, which are tied to the person who earned them. Keeping the store free of resale is part of how we keep the fee at 1.987%: the developers who sell here can rely on every sale being theirs.
Gifts. To give someone a game, buy it for them as a gift. A gift is a new purchase of its own licence for the person receiving it, with every right in sections 1 to 4. You can't give away a copy you already own.
Inheritance (section 4) is the one way an existing purchase changes hands.
6. Prices and fees
Buyers pay the price shown on the game's page, plus any sales tax or VAT that applies where they live, which is shown before they pay. There are no fees added at checkout.
Sellers pay two things on each sale, both deducted before payout and both shown line by line on every sales receipt:
- A 1.987% fee on the sale price.
- Payment processing and tax services at cost. Card processing typically costs about 2.9% plus US$0.30 for a US card, and more for international cards and currency conversion. We pass on exactly what our payment provider charges us, with nothing added.
| A seller's receipt for a US$20.00 sale | Amount |
|---|---|
| Sale price | US$20.00 |
| Payment processing, at cost (approx.) | − US$0.88 |
| Gaddr Games fee (1.987%) | − US$0.40 |
| Paid to the developer | ≈ US$18.72 |
When a sale is refunded within the two-hour window, the fee is returned to the seller. Processing costs that the payment provider does not return are passed on at cost.
7. What sellers agree to
Before a game can be listed, its seller agrees to give every buyer the rights in sections 1 to 4: a perpetual, irrevocable, DRM-free licence, the freedom to keep and reinstall their files, the two-hour refund, and inheritance transfers. That's why these promises hold for every game here, not only ours. See Sell with us for the rest of the seller's side.
8. The Ragnavoxel royalty
Games built on the Ragnavoxel engine owe a royalty of 1.987% of gross revenue from their first sale, wherever they're sold. On this store the royalty and the store fee are the same charge: a Ragnavoxel game sold here pays 1.987% once, never 3.974%, deducted automatically at the point of sale, so there's nothing to report. Games sold elsewhere report their revenue each quarter under the engine licence. The engine licence will define gross revenue exactly and will be published with Ragnavoxel's public release.
9. If the store ever closes
If Gaddr Games ever stops running the store, every owner will be told well in advance and given a final window to download everything in their library. Because every game is DRM-free, what you have downloaded keeps working afterwards.
10. Your account
One Gaddr Games account signs you in on these websites, in the launcher and in the Ragnavoxel Editor. Accounts are free. Closing your account doesn't revoke what you bought (section 1), but it does end downloads from us, so download your games first.
